Robert E. Murray, 75, of Cortland, N.Y. passed away peacefully on September 10, 2017 at home. Robert was born on October 29, 1941, the son of the late Walter Murray and Marion Bedell Murray. Robert started his career as an elementary school teacher, prior to becoming a Physician Assistant for 34 years. He truly enjoyed his career, and never considered it work. He had an affinity for helping others. Robert had a love for cars and carpentry. He loved to travel, enjoyed sports in particularly playing racquetball, basketball, and liked to listen to music. Robert especially loved spending time with his family. He had immense faith in God and a deep love for his country. Robert is survived by his wife Betty Murray; children Robert (Anita) Murray, David (DeeAhn) Murray, Amy (Steve) Surman, Robin (Gary) Alexander, and Michelle (Michael Piotti) Banwell; grandchildren, Robert III, Krystal, Hannah, Olivia, Leah, Haylee, Megan, Adam, Gage, and Emily; and great grandchildren, Peyton and Owen. He is also survived by his sisters Joan (Tony) Merihew, and Marion (Richard) Tallman; as well as countless nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by his brother Walter. Calling Hours will be held on Friday September 15, 2017 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 106 N. Main Street Cortland, from 12pm to 2pm with a service to follow at 2pm. Burial will be private.
