Marsha Sharlene Burleigh of East Freetown, NY, and formally from Green Turtle Cay, Abaco Bahamas, was called home Sunday, Jan.7th, 2018 at Cortland Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. Marsha had successfully battled 5 different cancers throughout her lifetime. This last bout, her 6th, succeeded in defeating her weakened body. Marsha's parents were Eileen Pinder Russell (affectionately called Ma Leen) or Mamma, and Everett Earl Russell. Marsha was born (and raised) on the small Island of Green Turtle Cay (cay pronounced key) (aka. GTC) of Abaco, Bahamas on Feb. 22nd, 1956.
Marsha fell in love with a cold country New Yorker, Randall Forrest Burleigh and moved to the Cortland, NY area to be with him. They married March 17th, 2007 at her daughters home in the Bahamas and returned to NY to live.
Marsha is survived by her husband Randall, daughter Dawn, step-daughter Paige, five grandchildren, Tyler, Felicia, Kai, Emmalene and Sebastian, 5 siblings, Steve, Craig, Randolf, Sherry and Lynn. Her brother, Colyn pre-deceased her in 2004. Marsha also leaves behind numerous, adoring uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
Family and friends will meet in the near future, for a celebration of life, at different locations. Marsha's ashes will be scattered in Bita Bay on GTC, as her beloved mother Eileen's ashes were 7 years ago. May everyone know in their lifetime the love that Marsha has known in hers.
