Obituary of Ruth Kay Burns

Ruth Kay Burns, 86, of Cortland, passed away on June 30, 2026. She was born on November 25, 1939, in Cortland, New York.

 

Ruth was a lifelong resident of the area. She was well known locally for selling jewelry through “Kay’s Celtic Collection.” She was also employed at Cortland Regional Medical Center and traveled extensively, training other medical professionals. 

 

She is survived by her son, Jon (Brenda); her grandchildren, Justin (Megan) and Kara (Mike); and her great-grandson, Michael.

 

Ruth was predeceased by her parents Halbert and Ruth Snyder Wood, her brother Halbert “Woody,” and her husband Ronald Burns.

 

She loved to travel and made many wonderful memories on trips to Disney and other special places. Whether near or far, she embraced every adventure with joy and curiosity.

Ruth's greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren Kara and Justin. She always made sure they knew how much they were loved. She loved to spoil them and created cherished memories they will carry with them always.

 

 

Services will be private. She will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Cortland next to her husband, Ronald.
