Robert F. “Bob” Thompson Sr., 94, of Tully passed away on October 13, 2023 at Loretto Health and Rehabilitation in Syracuse. He was born on March 9, 1929 in McGraw, NY to his parents the late Walter Thompson and Irene Bowker. Bob graduated from Cortland State in 1962 and taught 7th and 8th grade Social Studies for 22 years; 2 years at King Park Long Island, 1 ½ years at DeRuyter and 18 1/2 years at Tully. He started wrestling programs at DeRuyter and Tully and was a coach for many years while at Tully. Bob retired from teaching in 1984 and was employed by Onondaga Community College in the AV department for another 17 years. He also dappled in politics and in 1987 was Preble’s Supervisor. After retiring from OCC in 2001, he enjoyed wood carving and belonged to the National Wood Carver Association. In his later years, he enjoyed the company of the Homer Senior Center. Bob is survived by his children, Robert (Paula) Thompson Jr, Patricia “Pat” Beach, Cyndy (Randy) Moreland, and Lyn Thompson; 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Calling hours will be held on Thursday at The Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc. from 10 AM – 12 PM. Funeral services will be follow at 12 PM. Burial will take place at Elmwood Cemetery in Preble.
