Obituary of Agnes T. Cannone

Agnes T. Cannone, 91, of Groton NY, passed on to be with her late husband joseph May 26, 2009 at the Groton Nursing Home. She was born March 24, 1918 in Woodhall NY, the daughter of the late Henry & Dora Welch Thomas. Mrs. Cannone came to the Cortland area in her teenage years, attending and graduating from Cortland High School in 1935. She then went onto to Geneseo College where she obtained her bachelors degree in education. She taught briefly to elementary children then worked at Crescent Corset until beginning to raise her family. She was a member of the Homer Congregational Church for many years until her health prevented her from attending. In her spare time she enjoyed reading. Her family will cherish her memory as a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughter Judith (Richard) Rice of Groton NY, her nephew whom she raised Ronald Dye of Chicago Ill., granddaughters Wendy (Jason) Carlson of New York City, NY, Heather (Tim) Lisberg of Rochester NY, Kristie (Les Gifford) Rice of Groton NY, Kimberlee (Chad) Smith of Groton NY, 7 great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Agnes was predeceased by her husband joseph Cannone and son Doug Cannone. Calling hours will be held Thursday 6-8 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc 9 Lincoln Ave Cortland NY. A funeral service will be held Friday 3 pm at Wright-Beard Funeral Home with burial to follow at the Cortland Rural Cemetery.
