Abigail Abbie McKissick Hyer, passed away December 24, 2010 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center. She was born October 3, 1925 in West Fulton, NY, the daughter of the late George and Nellie Specht McKissick. Abbie came to the Cortland area over 65 years ago. She worked as a private housekeeper, owned and operated the family farm with her husband and son, then retired as a line supervisor for BF Gladding Corp. In her spare time she enjoyed reading. She will be remembered fondly by her family and numerous friends. Abbie is survived by her son Roland (Loretta) Hyer of N. Pitcher NY, her daughter Marie (Bruce) Burns of Cortland NY, her brother Bill McKissick of Norwich NY, sister in law Charlotte McKissick of Norwich NY, 14 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and special friend and caregiver Philip Tweeter Osborn. At her request there will be no services. She will buried in the spring next to her late husband John Hyer at the North Pitcher Cemetery. A celebration of Abbie's life will be held 12noon Thursday December 29, 2010 atthe Pitcher Parish Hall.
