Obituary of George L. Scutt

George L. Scutt Jr., 57, of Cortland passed away unexpectly on April 4, 2011. He was born October 8, 1953 in Cortland, the son of the late George and Theresa Young Scutt Sr. George was a life long resident of the Cortland area working at Gutchess Lumber from a young age. He enjoyed racing and being the crew chief for his sons George and Dickie #108 Racing Team, in the fall season he spent most of his free time hunting and being a member of the Razor Back Hunting Club. In his free time he loved to spend time with his family, friends, children, grandchildren and dogs, Babies, Annie and Max. George is survived by his sons Dickie (Holly) Scutt and George Scutt III of Cortland, sisters Kay Scutt of Cortland, Gale Taylor of Cortland, Nancy (Patrick) Brown of McLean, brother Chuck (Brenda) Scutt of Cincinnatus, step children; Don(Brandy Strauf) McCormick, Amber (Kevin) Hatch of Hartford, Sara McCormick of Cortland, and James, John, Jody Leonard, Grandchildren Chace, Ali, Andrew, Nathan, Katlyn, Connor, Madison, Isaac, Oksana and Brenton, special friends Joyce Leonard and several nieces, nephews and cousins. George was pre deceased by his wife Jill Scutt. Calling hours will be held Thursday 6:00-9:00 PM and Friday from 3:00-3:45 with a funeral to begin at 4:00 PM at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave. Cortland, NY 13045. a very wonderful man always went out his way to help others loved his kids and grandkids more then anything always knew how to make someone laugh George you will be missed dearly may you R.I.P miranda Greene sorry to hear about georgehe will be very dearly missed,and we will say a prayer for him so sorry theodore&sharon strauf I really enjoyed the times with your dad at the farm and at the race track. Jackie Leonard In the early 1930's, Abe and Charlie Schutt started working for C B Gutchess as loggers in the woods, with their equipment- axes and teams of horses. Ever since, Schutts have been a very integral part of Gutchess Lumber Company and it's companies. Our condolences to George's family, friends, and co-workers from the decendents of Clair and Irene Gutchess. Elsie Gutchess, family historian We have just learned of George's passing. We want your family to know how much we thought of him. We became acquainted with him and Jill through Jill's care of my mother and mother-in-law and it was at that time we went to the Dover Speedway for the races. We enjoyed the races and them also! A new grand baby was born that weekend and how excited they were. We especially enjoyed them as a couple who was dedicated to each other. We would see George in Cortland frequently and talked all kinds of racing. He was a proud and hard working man and will be missed by many. We are in Florida for the Winter and home is in Harford.
