Obituary of Helen D. Wakula

Helen Doris Wakula, 86, of Cortland, passed away March 8, 2012 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center Nursing Facility. She was born July 20, 1925 in Cortland daughter of the late Merritt and Julia Cummings Seamans. Helen was a lifelong resident of Cortland graduating from Cortland High School . She had been employed with Crescent Corset for many years. Helen was a communicant of St. Marys Church and was a member of the Cortland YWCA. She enjoyed being a homemaker, spending time with her family and baking for them. Her family will cherish her memory as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her children Gary (Wendy) Wakula of Marathon, Karen Levan of Vestal, Patricia (Jeffrey) Seibert of Homer, grandsons Timothy and Samuel Seibert of Homer, brothers Merritt (Beverly) Seamans of McGraw, Bernard (Carol) Seamans of Cortland, sister Frances Strickland of Dryden, nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her husband joseph Wakula, siblings Alice Finton, Margaret Wakula, and Harold Seamans. Calling hours will be Monday 5-7 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc 9 Lincoln Ave Cortland NY, 13045. A graveside service will be Tuesday 11 am at St. Anthonys Cemetery, Groton . Contributions may be made to St. Marys Church, 61 N. Main St., Cortland NY, 13045 or the Cortland YWCA, 14 Clayton Ave. , Cortland NY 13045. So sorry to hear about your Mom Pat. I enjoyed sharing my lunch time, not only with Dad, but with you and the other residents that sat at Dad's table. I was sorry that we only chatted a few times before Dad passed away. It was sad to hear that your Mom passed only a week or so later. I did think of you Pat as I was going to lunch. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
