Obituary of Hilda Mae Gobel Transue

Hilda Mae Gobel Transue, 102, passed away October 11, 2012 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center. She was born April 10, 1910 in Maryland NY, the daughter of the late Andrew and Mildred Ives Gobel. When she graduated Oneonta High School in 1927 she worked for Franklin Motor Sales in Oneonta until she married in 1933. After her husbands death in 1955 she went to work 18 yrs for Botnick Motors in Binghamton until she retired in 1973. She then became Financial Secretary for the Boulevard Methodist Church in Binghamton in 1989 at age 79. Mrs. Transue enjoyed making appliquÃĩ quilts, reading, and doing Word Search Puzzles. She is survived by her sister Gladys Quinn of Syracuse, her brother Harold Gobel of Essex Junction, Vt., daughter and son in law James and Tonia Roberts of Cortland, granddaughter Valerie Roberts of Roslindale, MA, grandson Todd and Tina Roberts of Gilbert, AZ, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her siblings Beatrice, Dorothy, Nedra, Adah, Millicent, Donald, step daughters Dorothy and Betty. A calling hour will be held Monday 1-2pm with a funeral service to begin 2 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc 9 Lincoln Ave Cortland NY. Burial will be Tuesday 11 am at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery. Being an avid reader, in lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Cortland Free Library, c/o Kay Zaharis, 32 Church St., Cortland NY, 13045.
