Daniel R. Broker passed away unexpectedly on December 14, 2012, at Cortland Regional Medical Center and went to be with his Heavenly Father. Dan was born in Cortland, NY, on September 5, 1946 to Richard and Shirley Krewson Broker. He graduated from Cortland High School, Class of 1964, where he was a member of the varsity tennis and undefeated football teams. A Life Scout in the Boy Scouts of America, Dan went on to graduate from SUNY Delhi in 1966 with an Associates Degree in Construction. In October of 1967, Danny married Valerie Fitch Broker. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his sister Valerie Galante of Cortland, a brother Eric (Connie) of Charlton, NY, his four children: James, Erica, Scott (Melissa), and joseph (Cayce), eight grandchildren: Samantha, Austin, Emily,Libby, Zachary, Cylin, Nicholas and Noah, brother- and sister-in-law John and Joan Mudge Fitch, and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special four-legged pal, Jack. A long-time member of the Operating Engineers Union, Local 545D, in Syracuse, Dannys employment history included serving on land surveying crews for MacNeill Surveyors & Engineers of Homer, Santaro Construction of East Syracuse, and many others through the Union Hall. Before retirement in 2008, he was a passionate bowler and softball team player. Dan was a proud and dedicated Honorary Life Member of the Cortland Elks Lodge 748, having joined more than 35 years ago and since then serving as their Past Exalted Ruler, Past State Vice-President, Past District Deputy. In 2007, he was named Elk of the Decade and, over the years, has received numerous Elk awards. Family and friends are invited to calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, December 18th at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Avenue in Cortland. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., December 19th, with The Rev.Christopher Xenakis officiating. Interment will be at the Marathon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations in Dans memory be made to the Cortland Elks Lodge No. 748, 9 Groton Ave., Cortland, NY 13045, or the Groton City United Church of Christ, 47 Groton City Road, Groton, NY 13073. to offer on line condolences visit www,wright-berard.com My sincerest condolences to Val and the Broker family.
