Obituary of Vernon Filkins

Vernon Filkins, I, 73, of Scott NY, passed away May 25, 2013 at his home surrounded by family. Vernon was a longtime resident of the area working for Bill Hoys Farm, Fesko Farms, and most recently the Filkins Farm. He was also employed at Smith Corona for twenty five years. Vernon was a member of the Scott United Methodist Church, Scott Fire and Safety, and a lifetime member of the Spafford Volunteer Fire Dept. He was an avid NASCAR and Dale Sr. fan. He had a great love for his family especially his grandchildren and will be remembered as the Town DAD. He is survived by his wife of 53 yrs. Phyllis Filkins of Scott, his son Vernon (Christine) Filkins II, his daughters Debbie (Kennard) Brown, Tammy (Charles) Keller, Melissa (Vincent) Losaw I, Bonnie (Robert) Mountford, his siblings Lee (Kim) Filkins and Louise Charlotte (Ed) Swan, 29 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Louis and Helen Filkins and his brother Louie. Calling hours will be Tuesday (today) 4-7 pm at the Scott United Methodist Church, Rt. 41, Scott, NY. Funeral services will be Wednesday 10 am at the church. Burial will follow at the Scott Union Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Scott United Methodist Church, Spafford Volunteer Fire Dept., or Spafford Food Pantry.
