Edward R. Parks, of 2496 Parks Rd. passed away June 1, 2013 at Community General Hospital in Syracuse. Ed was born December 16, 1947 in Cortland the son of the late Alvah and Catherine McCallen Parks. Ed was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a Vietnam veteran who had served with the US Navy. He had spent many years working on the family dairy farm with his father and had enjoyed working as a self employed carpenter. Ed will be remembered for his love for family, visiting with friends and telling stories. He was a very talented builder and carpenter and enjoyed helping others and sharing his skills. Mr. Parks is survived by his son Michael (Alison Cole) Parks of McGraw, one daughter Katherine (John Soenen) Parks of Canton, PA., his brother Charles (Marlene) Parks of McGraw and his sister Mary (James) Belknap of Cincinnatus. Three grandchildren joshua and Ryan Parks and Levi Edward Soenen. Step daughters Roberta (Andy) Plew and Christine Jennings and their families and several nieces and nephews A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 12:00 noon at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave, Cortland. Interment will follow in the McGraw Cemetery. Friends are invited to call on Wednesday evening 5:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home. He would dance with me when no one else would during Gym class.He was also very good to me when ever I saw him out side of school.My prayers go out family! Ed is resting with his heavenly Father now! Joan Stebbins-Shadinger I was saddened to read of Ed's passing today. I graduated high school with his brother, Charlie. My sincere sympathies. Barb Gros Klockowski Charlie and family,I was saddened to learn of Ed's passing. I've been living in Kentucky for the past 42 years and only get to McGraw ocassionally. The last time I was there was in September of 2009 and I had a brief visit with Ed at the Empire. Same old Ed I remembered! I'm forever greatful that I was able to run up on him one last time. Charlie,this not the wayv I would have chosen to say "Hi" after all these years. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Steve I was deeply sadden when I heard the news that Ed had passed away.
