Gerard Rudolph (Rudy) Boll III, of Arlington, Virginia, died on August 11, 2013 at Capital Caring Hospice in Arlington, VA at the age of 54. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts on May 13, 1959 to Gerard and Sandra (nee Girard) Boll. He grew up in Cortland, NY and attended St. Marys Catholic School and graduated from Homer High School in 1977. He then went on to graduate from Villanova University in 1981 with a bachelors degree in Civil Engineering. Rudy began his career in Federal service with the Central Intelligence Agency in 1984 in the Directorate of Administration (DA) as a civil engineer, serving in the Washington, DC area. He went on to serve at a domestic field site in the Office of Communications as an electronic engineer. He returned to the Washington, DC area to serve as a project management engineer in the Directorate of Science and Technology and later the National Clandestine Service (formerly the Directorate of Operations). He received numerous exceptional performance awards for his outstanding contributions to the Agency. During his career, he traveled often to Europe, South America, Africa, East Asia and the Middle East. Rudy was known for his love of fishing with friends and family on his boat, Tiana Vice, and spending every free moment at the family home in Hampton Bays, NY. Predeceased by his father, Dr. Gerard R. Boll Jr., he is survived by his mother, Sandra Boll, of Cortland, NY, his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Romy Boll and their children Sydney and Kyle of Arlington, VA, and his aunt, Sister Donna Girard, O. Carm., of New Orleans, LA. Visitation will be held at Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, VA on Wednesday, August 14, 2013, from 5-8 p.m. A second visitation will be held at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland, NY on Friday, August 16, 2013 from 5-8 p.m. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Marys Catholic Church, 46 N. Main St., Cortland, NY on Saturday, August 17, 2013, 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at St. Marys Cemetery following mass. Memorial contributions can be made in Rudys name to St. Marys Catholic School, 61 North Main Street, Cortland, NY 13045. Although we have only known Rudy for the past few years, he certainly touched our hearts. We are honored to have known such a wonderful man, and will miss him dearly. Kevin and Amy Workman
