Our neighborhood lost its mayor, Frank Polan. I lost a neighbor, a friend, a supervisor, a teacher, a drinking buddy, a story teller, a historian and a man who felt more like a father figure to me than anything else.
My dogs loved Frank more than they do me, my kids have never spent one day of their lives without "Nabr", as they used to spell it, keeping an eye out for them. My wife loved nothing more than some good natured wise guy banter back and forth with Frank. She misses him dearly.
Frank put a smile on our faces daily, as we went about our lives. We always knew he was there for us at the drop of his hammer, chainsaw, gas can, paint brush or whatever he happened to be fixing.
Frank was the salt of the earth. He was tough, but soft. Mistakes were part of the job to Frank. He was a relentless worker, but work was his hobby. He was spirited, but composed. He was rich with friends, knowledge, talent, and accomplishment. Frank had opinions and spoke about them freely, but encouraged a good debate.
He will be missed greatly. I've learned enough
from Frank to last a lifetime. But what he really taught me was how to live life, one full day at a time.
God Bless Linda, and their family. Our collective condolences from 130 North Main...
