Dorothy Anna Laun, 96, of Cortland passed away October 22, 2017 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center. She was born September 1, 1921 in Whitestone, NY, the daughter of the late Conrad and Annie Gaschott.

 

Dorothy grew up in Whitestone, spending memorable summers in Setauket, and graduated from Bayside High School. She married Fred Laun, and together they raised their family in Carle Place, Long Island, creating wonderful memories of camping, swimming, baking cookies, holiday gatherings and summer picnics with relatives. Dorothy moved to Cortland 33 years ago to be with her daughter, son-in-law and first grandchild.

 

Dorothy spent her life giving her love and care to all those around her. She touched the lives of many children as a caring neighborhood mom, a Den Leader, a Sunday School Teacher at Westbury Methodist Church and Grace and Holy Spirit Church, and as a child care provider. She was an active member of Grace and Holy Spirit Church, as well as a frequent visitor to McLean Community Church.

She is survived by her sons James (Nancy) Laun, Charles Laun and Judi Lauber, her daughter Anne (Bryant) Withers, grandchildren Devin and Jarett Withers, Stephen Laun and Cathy Phelps (Laun), and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

 

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Sunday, October 29, at the McLean Community Church, 50 Church St., McLean NY, 13102.

 

Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to either Grace and Holy Spirit Church, 13 Court St., Cortland, NY, 13045 or McLean Community Church, 50 Church St., McLean NY, 13102.
