Obituary of Laurie A. Batsford

Laurie A. Wheelock Batsford, age 47, of Cortland, NY passed away from complications following surgery, Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at Upstate University Medical Center, Syracuse, NY, surrounded by her family. Laurie was born December 22, 1969, in Cortland, NY, a daughter of Gary and Margaret Wheelock. She graduated from McGraw Central High School in 1988, then enrolled at Tompkins County Community College where she received her Associate's Degree in Travel and Tourism. Laurie began her employment at the ARC of Cortland and most recently at Intertek of Cortland. On September 25, 1999, she was married to Michael "Mick" Batsford. Laurie leaves behind her loving husband of 18 years; mother, Margaret Wheelock, of McGraw, NY; sister Vicki (Wayne) Bell of Charlotte, NC. She also leaves behind several sisters and brothers in-laws, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Laurie was predeceased by her father. Laurie enjoyed spending time with family and camping friends at Pickle Platter Pond, and loved spoiling her nieces and nephews. Laurie had a passion for reading, and enjoyed watching cooking shows and crocheting. The family would like to thank all of her camping friends, and family at Intertek for always being there for Laurie. A service will be held at 1:30pm, Monday, November 20, 2017, at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Avenue, Cortland, NY, followed by interment at Cortland Rural Cemetary, Cortland, NY. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Lamont Memorial Free Library, 5 Main Street, McGraw, NY 13101.
