Hugh J. Keegan, 66, of Groton, N.Y., passed away surrounded by his wife of 41 years and children, on February 2, 2018 at the Cayuga Medical Center. Hugh was born on, April 12, 1951 in Cortland, N.Y., the son of James Keegan and Mary Wilk Keegan. . For 36 years, Hugh was the president and proud owner of his advertising, marketing, and public relations firm, Keegan Associates. He was an active community member involved in organizations such as, the YMCA and the ZBA Boards. He also served on Boards for the United Way for Cortland County and the Cortland Chamber of Commerce. He was an avid sportsman and hunter and enjoyed competitive tennis and basketball throughout his life. Hugh loved his land and caring for his trees, actively involved in Forest Stewardship. He is survived by his wife Carol Keegan; his mother Mary Keegan; son Kevin Keegan; daughter Erin (Steven) Toddes; and his grandchildren Eloise and Maxwell Toddes. Hugh was predeceased by his father James Keegan. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday February 7, 2018 at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc. from 4 to 8pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at the funeral home at 10am. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery of Cortland.
