Richard D. Halpin, 85, of Homer NY, passed away July 8, 2018 at the Cortland Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was born September 18, 1932 in Astoria Queens, NY. Richard and his late wife Marian Jayne had resided in Brentwood NY. He worked as an electronic methods specialist for Northrop Grumman Corp., Aerospace Division, on Long Island. While living down state he was active in Boy Scouts and was awarded the Silver Beaver and other honors for his service to hisTroop as well as the Penataquit District. They relocated to Homer around 2000. While living locally he was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and enjoyed, attending theatre productions at SUNY Cortland and was a Season Subscriber at CRT, in his spare time he worked with his wife, creating wood working projects for craft shows and renewed his lifelong passion for Oil and Acrylic painting . He is survived by his daughter LaureAnn (Michael) Halpin-Price of Joliet IL, his son Kevin (Cindy) Halpin of Cortland NY, his brothers Thomas (Barbara) Halpin, James (Pam) Halpin all of Florida, his grandchildren Mark (Lindsey) Abrahamson, Caitie Sue Abrahamson, Aisling Marie Halpin, Cassidy Marie Halpin, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Richard was predeceased by his wife Marian Jayne Halpin, his parents William and Mary Halpin, and his step mother Catherine Halpin. Calling hours are Friday 4-7 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY, 13045. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday 9:30 am at St. Mary's Church, Cortland, with Fr. Joseph Zareski presiding. A prayer service will be Saturday 9 am at Wright-Beard Funeral Home prior to Mass. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to your local Boy Scouts of America.
