Dorothy Laura (Capeland) Cooke of Cortland, New York passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse on August 11, 2018 with her husband and daughter at her side. Dot was born August 26, 1938 in Hackensack, New Jersey to Conrad C. Capeland and Mildred (Sondermann) Capeland. Her family moved to a farm near Schenevus ,N.Y. after WW2 and then to a farm outside Morris, New York. Dot graduated from Morris Central School in 1956 and took employment as a bookkeeper at the Dimock Hollow Telephone Company and then as the book keeper for the Neilson Construction Company of Oneonta, New York. Dot married her high school sweetheart Gregory A. Cooke December 1, 1961 at the First Methodist Church in Morris. As her husband was employed by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, as an inspector for the Syracuse regional area they moved to Baldwinsville,New York and Dot worked for the Syracuse Boys Club as a book keeper. They then moved to a farm outside Phoenix, New York and on August 20th, 1965, Dot gave birth to a son Michael Lee Cooke and on May 23, 1968 to a daughter Cristina Sue Cooke. They moved to Adams Center soon after the birth of Cris and then back to Delphi Falls, after her husband's promotion to a supervisor of inspections in C.N.Y.. After her husband's retirement in 1996 they moved to Cortland, N.Y. . While at Delphi Falls, Dot worked as a bookkeeper for Automatic Utilities of Cazenovia. Dot enjoyed square dancing and round dancing, golfing, camping and travels throughout New York for square dancing and golfing weekends. After retirement in 1996, she and her husband enjoyed travel throughout the Canadian provinces and to Alaska and Hawaii and wintering in their snow bird residence at Clerbrook R.V. and Golf Resort near Clermont, Florida and she loved her homemaking and her spending time with her grand children. Dot especially enjoyed her golfing at the Knickerbocker Country Club in Cincinatus and the Clerbrook Resort Golf Club and her many golfing friends. She was always upbeat and a beautiful person while fighting five different cancers for 23 years.

Dot is survived by her husband and her son Michael Lee Cooke of Williamsville, New York and her daughter Cris (Mrs. David Denniston ) of Dryden, New York. She has 3 grandchildren, George Gregory Cooke, Kathryn Beatrice Cooke and Patrick Michael Cooke of Williamsville and two step grandchildren Matt Denniston of Dryden and Jennifer Denniston of Cortland. Survivors also include her brother Conrad (Margie) Capeland of Lakeland, Florida and her sister, Mildred, Mrs. James Hoover of Kirkville, N.Y.. Dot did not want a memorial service but has expressed a desire for a get together of family and friends be arranged for the celebration of her life. Donations should be made to the American Cancer Society, sponsor of the Relay for Life in her honor for she was a survivor of 4 different types of cancer and supported the Relay for Life, as a cancer survivor for 23 years.

A celebration of life will be August 26th from 12-5 at 337 West State Rd Dryden, all are welcome
