Nicholas M. Pauldine passed away on August 28, 2018 at Cortland Regional Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 87. He was born in Cortland, NY, on June 29, 1931 to parents Nicholas Pauldine and Antoinette Masterpole Pauldine. Nick graduated from St. Mary's School with the remarkable class of 1948, having served as Class President for both his junior and senior years. He then attended Syracuse University and SUNY Cortland, graduating in 1954. Nick taught at Homer Central Schools from 1955 to 1967. While teaching in Homer, Nick had the good fortune of meeting and marrying Barbara Burris, the junior high school music teacher. After teaching, Nick moved on to SUNY Cortland as their first official Director of Alumni Affairs where he was instrumental in bringing the Alumni Affairs office into the modern age. In recognition of his achievements, he was presented the Distinguished Alumni Award by the SUNY Cortland Alumni Association upon his retirement in 1986. In retirement, Nick owned and operated the Varsity Liquor store with wife Barbara, in Cortland until retiring again in 2006. Nick was a long-time member of the Cortland Country Club, Cortland Elks Club, Cortland Civic Band and Cortland Oldtimers Band, in which he very much enjoyed playing the clarinet. In his leisure time he was an avid golfer with three holes-in-one to his credit, mastered the delicate art of the clutch putt, and enjoyed countless epic matches with the "Dirty Cousins" foursome. He was also a very skilled pool player. Nick thoroughly enjoyed cooking, specializing in Sunday sauce and homemade pasta and meatballs. One of his most relaxing activities was puttering about in his garage. Nick was predeceased by his parents Nicholas and Antoinette; brothers Donold and Eugene; daughter Antoinette (Toni) P. Diem, and nephew Jeffrey Palladino. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Barbara Burris Pauldine of Cortland; brother William (Diana) Pauldine of Cortland; sons Nicholas (Kerry) Pauldine of Ithaca, NY, and Joseph (Kelly) Pauldine of Wellington FL; son-in-law Timothy Diem of Syracuse; grandchildren Riley and Isabella Pauldine of Ithaca and William, Paul and John Diem of Syracuse; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Wright-Beard Funeral Home in Cortland on Friday August 31, from 4-7PM. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday September 1 at 10:30 AM in St. Mary's Church in Cortland.
