Janice L. McLorn, 89, passed away peacefully at home March 29, 2019. She was born in Cortland on July 8, 1929, to Leo D. and Bernice Cole Coakley. Jan lived in Cortland all her life and loved it. She was a devoted member of St. Mary's Church and a 1947 graduate of St. Mary's School.

On June 7, 1952, she married William F. (Bill) McLorn, and enjoyed 57 years of marriage until his death in 2009. She retired from Smith Corona after 20 years as a clerk. She served as an Election Inspector and belonged to many civic organizations including RSVP, the NYS Harness Horse Association and owned standard bred horses including, "Coco Belle." An avid bowler she was inducted into the Cortland Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1991 and the Seven Valley USBC Hall of Fame in 2007.

Janice will forever be remembered as a generous, sweet, strong, woman who loved animals, dancing, volunteering, and most of all her family. Her survivors include daughters and son-in-law: Kathy & Ralph Smith and Anne McLorn (Gary Allen). Four grandchildren: Sarah Jones (Jamie Williamson); William J. (Billy) Smith (her faithful caretaker), Patrick (Charity) McLorn and James McLorn. Two great granddaughters: Claire M. and Chloe E. Jones. She was affectionately known as Dee Dee to her three nieces: Laurie Marks; Lynn (Bill) Pomeroy; Liane Bracciale and nephew, Leo Bracciale and also many cousins and friends.

Jan was predeceased by her mother, father, husband and sister, Rosemary C. Bracciale. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary's Church, Saturday, April 6th at 11AM. Burial will be at Cortland Rural Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Per Janice's wishes in lieu of flowers, give flowers to someone you love today! Contributions in Jan's name can be made to the St. Mary's window restoration fund.
