Obituary of Bonnie E Sciera

Please share a memory of Bonnie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bonnie went to be at peace with Jesus after a lengthy battle with congestive heart failure at Cortland Park Nursing home. The family would like to thank all of those who cared for her in her last years at both Cortland Park Rehabilitation & Nursing Center and Walden Place. She is survived by her five children John R.(Melinda) Sciera, Gregory Sciera, Lynn John Boehmke) Sciera, Brian(Kelly) Sciera and David(Ann) Sciera; 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; sister Geraldine Wilhelm, sister-in-law Joann Miller, brother-in-law William Moffit and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband John L. Sciera, her mother and father, William and Kathryn, and her sisters Marge (Tinker) and Dorothy (Moffit), and brothers Larry, Robert, and William Miller. Bonnie graduated as valedictorian of her class from St. Paul High School in Norwalk, Ohio. She then obtained her bachelor's degree on a scholarship at Bowling Green School of Nursing. She worked as an RN for several years while starting her family. She continued her education at SUNY Cortland, where she earned a master's degree in health education. She then taught Health at Homer Central School until she retired from teaching. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where she sang in the choir. She also was a member of the board at the Elizabeth Brewster House in Homer and volunteered with the American Red Cross, as well as donating to a number of charitable organizations. She enjoyed music, playing the piano, and gardening, but most of all, she enjoyed her family. She was truly a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family every chance she could as her family was her life. We all are blessed to have been touched by her amazing love, compassion, wisdom, and positivity. She will forever remain in our hearts and souls. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cortland, NY, The Alzheimer's Association, or the American Red Cross. Private grave side service with immediate family only will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery. A memorial service and mass will be scheduled at a later date for extended family and friends when we can be together again.
