Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
George R. Rogers, 86 of Cortland passed away on January 7, 2022 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester with family by his side after a courageous battle with leukemia. He was born on October 3, 1935 in Cortland, the son of the late George E. and Mary E. Moscrop Rogers. George proudly served his country between 1955 and 1959 with the United States Air Force from which he was honorably discharged. George worked as a mechanical assembler at Monarch Machine for over 23 years. He was an avid outdoorsman, including hunting, camping, boating on Seneca lake with Rick and Barney, and especially his lifelong passion for fishing, which he enjoyed with Carol and grandchildren Shannon and Kricket. George's other hobbies included woodworking, home renovations, yard work, and watching Wheel of Fortune and Lawrence Welk. George was a kind-hearted generous humble man who deeply loved his family. He displayed a quick wit and clever retort that was evident even up to the last hours of his life. He was a relentlessly hard-working family man. After working all day at Monarch, he would spend his evenings digging out the side of a steep hill behind his house to create a 2-tiered lawn covering over 150 feet. He even built concrete stairs leading up to the top tier. George was beloved by his family and will be deeply missed. He is survived by four sons, William Rogers, Edwin "Buck" Rogers, Richard (Barney Goldstein) Rogers, Scott Rogers, one daughter, Carol Tracy; one brother, John Thomas (Bernice) Rogers; a sister-in- law, Sheila Rogers; 13 grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. George is predeceased by his wife Beverly Tift Rogers, daughter-in-law Stacy Rogers, brother Bud Rogers, and companion Judy Vickery. Calling hours will be held Thursday 3:00 – 6:00 PM at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave. Cortland. Funeral Services will be held Friday 10 AM at the funeral home. Mask will be required.
