Obituary of Barbara O'Connor

Barbara May O'Connor, age 83, of Leesburg, FL passed away on Wednesday, November 3, 2021. She was born February 23, 1938 in Syracuse, NY a daughter Harold and Alma Rood. She is survived by her husband, Robert Tucker; son, Dwayne Wilson; daughters, Alma Graham and Roseann Dickson. Barbara grew up on her father's farm located on Long Road in Homer. She attended Homer Schools graduating in 1955. She attended the Crouse School of Nursing in Syracuse. She married Trent Wilson in 1956, had three children and was a stay at home mom providing childcare from her home for several children for many years. She then worked for Dr. Gabriel from 1976-78, she was also the Deputy Clerk Treasurer of Homer 1978-1983. Having divorced her husband during this period she met and married Dr. Robert O'Connor and moved to Schenectady, NY. While there she worked for Liberty Mutual 1984-1986, then for Schenectady County Social Services retiring in 1996 for care for her husband who had Huntington's Disease. They were able to spend several winters in Florida, but eventually his condition worsened and had to be admitted to a nursing home. Barbara returned to Cortland, wintering in Florida until his death. She met and married Robert Tucker, they had a happy loving relationship and enjoyed a wonderful nine years until her health failed her. Barbara was a loving person and talented in so many ways. She loved people, was very positive, her favorite saying was Live Well, Laugh Often, and Love Much. Barbara will be missed by many. Barbara is survived by her children, Alma (Joseph) Graham, Roseann Dickson, Dwayne (Theresa) Wilson, step children Brian (Linda) Tucker, grandchildren, Joshua (Emily) Miller, Trevor (Kalyn) Wilson, Brendan Wilson, Victoria Wilson and Jaci Wilson, step grandchildren, Joseph Graham IV, Weathers Graham, Samantha (Michael) Van Der Jagt, Steven (Alyssa) Tucker, Emily Tucker, great grandchildren, Noah Miller and Cole Wilson, step great grandchildren, Logan Van Der Jagt, Mason Tucker, Emma Van Der Jagt, step siblings, Alan (Glenda) McKee, Rachel (Stanly Nilsson) Rood, Roger (Rita) McKee, Mary Shore and Anita (William) Pryor, several nieces and nephews. Barbara is predeceased by her siblings, Richard, Franklin, Robert Rood, Roberta Briggs. Calling hours will be June 4, 2022 9:30 -10:15 am at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave, Cortland, NY 13045 with a funeral service to follow at 10:30 AM.
