Obituary of Betsy S. Brewer
Please share a memory of Betsy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Betsy S. Brewer, 61, of Cortland passed away July 8, 2022 at the Cortland Guthrie Hospital. She was born July 17, 1960 in Cortland the daughter of the late William and Lucy Ibbotson Brewer.
Betsy was a lifelong resident of the area graduating from Cortland Jr. Sr. high School in 1978. She then attended Green Mountain College where she pursued a dental assisting certificate and an associate's degree in science. After moving west to Colorado she attended Front Range Community College and received a degree in nursing as an LPN. Betsy always wanted to help people. After a few years, Betsy moved back east to be home and pursued her love of gardening and volunteering. She soon became a member of the Homer Garden Club from 1975-2016. Flowers became her passion to both beautify Homer and Cortland along with her own yard and lakefront. Betsy's other love was for animals. She volunteered at the Cortland County SPCA for ten years and then became an employee for another six years. She was instrumental in the start up and run of the spay/neuter program which is still a successful part of the SPCA.
Rules that Betsy lived by: Be kind to others, live each day to the fullest, empathize with others situations, and most of all laugh every day if only at yourself.
Betsy is survived by her siblings William (Carol) Brewer of Ithaca and Carol (Doug) Fenton of Homer, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her brother Steven Brewer.
The family will celebrate her life at a later date. The Wright-Beard Funeral Home is serving the family, online condolences may be left at www.wright-beard.com
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cortland County SPCA Neuter/Spay Program, National Wildlife Federation, or to the Finger Lakes Trust to help preserve the beauty of the Finger Lakes for future generations.
