Obituary of Nellie P. Adams

Nellie P. Adams, 86, of Cortland, passed away on July 13, 2022 at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center. Nell was born on November 15, 1935 in Endicott, NY to her parents the late Anthony Vavra and Nellie Makar. She made her career at Homer Elementary School, working as the head cook in their kitchen. Nell loved to cook and she enjoyed lunches with her good friends Carol and Nancy and her long talks with her BFF Dorothy. Above all Nellie truly cherished her family. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years Paul Adams, daughters Lori (Phil) Shager and Christine (Kevin) Kabanuk, her brother Anthony Vavra, grandchildren Megan (Brycen Dunn) Higgins, Kyle (Sarah Robillard) Kabanuk, Konnor Kabanuk, and P.J. Shager, her great grandchildren Brianna Kabanuk and Lily Kabanuk; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She is predeceased by her parents and her sister in law and best friend Grace. Calling hours will be held on Monday at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc. from 2 to 4pm with a service beginning at 4pm. Burial will be held privately at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
