Obituary of John W. Homer

John Wheeler Homer, 78, of Cortland, NY passed away on Wednesday August 17, 2022. He was born on December 8, 1943, in Cortland, NY. John proudly served in the United States Army Reserves from 1967-1971. He was also a member of the Homer Elks. In the past, John worked at United Auto and for the Cortland Youth Bureau. John enjoyed bowling, bingo, garage sales, airplanes, old time movies, and air shows. Each day, John and Wilma loved watching the birds together. John is survived by his life partner of 17 years, Wilma Burleigh, his cousins Bob (Leah) Ellis, Carole Metcalf, Lori Metcalf, and Heather Metcalf, Wilma's daughters Yvonne (Jacki) Burleigh and Colleen Burleigh, Wilma's grandkids and great grandkids, his little dog Princess, and their cat Callie. He is predeceased by his parents Lawrence and Laura Ellis Homer. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday August 24, 2022 at 1pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland, NY. Pastor Stephanie Brown will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cortland Community SPCA, 879 McLean Rd., Cortland, NY 13045.
