Norman Perry Smith, 56, resident of Marathon and Cortland, NY, died on August 11, 2022. He was born on May 23, 1956 in Cortland, to his parents, the late Marmand (Minnie) and Betty Smith. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Osco Robinson Post 617 serving as vice commander and 6th district vice commander and was on the Homer Elk Lodge #2506 Veterans Support Committee. He was an associate member of the Marine Corp League Det #221 and Cortland Country TOYS FOR TOTS campaign Team Member. He was previously employed at Groton Cycle Shop. Norman loved traveling the country, camping with his parents, and being with his friends. He loved all things law enforcement, military, and Harley Davidson. He was a loving caring son, brother, uncle, and friend with a big smile for all he had contact with. Norman is survived by his sisters Pamela (Paul) Plew of Valencia, California and Bonita Smith of Gladewater, Texas; nieces and nephews Paul (Dawn) Plew II, Janelle Plew (Chris) Sonnenburg, both of Santa Clara, California, Jason (Jenn) Plew of Ventura, California, Matthew (Kris) O'Dell of Shawnee, Oklahoma and Miranda O'Dell (Chris) Cooper Gladewater, Texas; his great nieces and nephews Farrell (Mauricio) Plew, Arianna Sonnenburg, P.T. Plew III, Catalina Sonnenburg, Aidan Plew, Chase O'Dell, Zhoee O'Dell, Hazel Plew, Sawyer Plew, and Adilynn Cooper. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Donald M. Smith and David P. Smith We would like you to join our family for a Memorial/Graveside service for Norman P. Smith at 12pm on August 23, 2002 at Parker Street Cemetery in Lapeer, NY. For those who would like to participate in "His Last Ride" we will be meeting at the Village Green in Marathon and leaving promptly at 11:30am with Sheriff's/Biker's/ and Car Escorts (the more the merrier! Anything that has wheels!) In lieu of flowers you may donate to the Marmand H. Smith Scholarship Fund at Marathon Central High School in memory of his father.
