Obituary of Anthony C. Ferro

Anthony C. "Sonny" Ferro, age 86 of Cortland NY, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday August 27th. He was born June 20, 1936 in Cortland to the late Michael Ferro and Lucy Mantella Ferro. "Sonny" is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Genevieve Morris Ferro, daughter Nancy (Joseph) Rongo, and sons Michael (Regina), David (Theresa); 3 granddaughters Genevieve (Jeff) Mezzo, Kaitlyn (Eric) Law, and Michaella and 2 great grandsons Clayton and Mark; a brother Tino (Carole) and sister Selinda (Jim) Mandarano, many nieces, nephews and cousins, and his beloved dog Sugarbear. He was a 1956 graduate of Cortland High School, and a communicant of St. Mary's Church. Sonny's lifelong work began at Wickwires after which he spent many years as a general manager at Gallucci Construction before retiring from the County Highway Department in 1998 after 10 years working as a carpenter. He will be remembered for his quick-witted humor, generous spirit, determination, and his willingness and ability to repair all things. Sonny Cherished his family and was always there to help anyone in need. Calling hours will be held Friday afternoon from 4-7pm at Wright-Beard Funeral home with funeral services on Saturday at 10am at St. Mary's Church.
