Gene P. King, Sr of Virgil, NY passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Sunday,
September 4, 2022. Gene was born on September 29, 1934 in Homer, NY to Harry H. King and Myrtle
Horn. Gene retired from Brewer-Titchner/Cooper Industries after 40 years.
He was a life-time member of the Virgil Fire Department. He served in various positions volunteering for 68 years, including Assistant Chiefs, Chief, Fire Commissioner and Fire Police. He also served as a bailiff for the Virgil Courts.
Gene loved camping with family and friends and spending many Saturday Mornings catching up on the
local events over coffee. Gene also enjoyed the company of the Virgil Senior Club gatherings and
fieldtrips.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Bessie (Van Dee) King, children Carol (Jeff) Bradley and Gene
(Rayna) King, Jr, grandchildren Jason Bradley, Stacy Bradley (Alton Conner Jr), Junelle King, Bryanna King, great-grandchild Jeffrey Jean Conner, and sister Grace Oliver. In addition to cousins, nieces and
nephews.
Gene was predeceased by his parents and many siblings.
Family and friends are invited to visit Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Cortland, NY on Friday, September, 9, 2022, from 5 to 7pm, and attend funeral services on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at the funeral home at 1 pm. Burial will follow at the Virgil Cemetery, Virgil, NY. The funeral service will be live streamed on Gene's Obituary page on the Wright-Beard Funeral Home website Saturday at 1pm.
Donations in Gene's name can be made to the Virgil Fire Department and the Virgil Methodist Church.
