Doris Pearl Wells Fernandez passed away peacefully at home on the morning of Jan 2, 2023. She was born on October 3, 1935, in Gridley, Kansas, a daughter of the late Owen and Tillie Wells. Doris was a 1953 graduate of Tonkawa High School in Tonkawa Oklahoma. She earned her degree in Business from the University of Colorado in 1968. During her years in the business world, Doris held many interesting positions: Secretary to the Chief of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Secretary in the Support Engineering Department of General Dynamics/Astronautics in San Diego, California, builder of the Atlas Missile, and Secretary to the Vice Chancellor of the University of California, Santa Barbara, California. Her most rewarding career choice was her years teaching business subjects at Homer High School in Homer N.Y and at the Tompkins Cortland Community College in Dryden, N.Y. Upon her retirement, Doris volunteered her time at various charities. She served on the Board of Directors of the YWCA, Catholic Charities, Brewster House, and the SPCA. Doris was an active member of the Fortnightly Club. Doris is survived by her husband Julio of 60 years, her brother Dr. Clint Wells (Sandy), her niece Teresa Findley Redman (Rick), her great niece Kelly Redman Vaughn, her great nephew Jedidiah Redman (Charissa), and her many cousins including Mary Bolton, Therese Berkowitz, Shelley Tarantola and Lilly Westbrook (Joe). In addition to her parents, Doris was predeceased by her brother Bobby Wells, sisters Norma Findley and Virginia Green, and her great nephew Anthony Redman. The family is most grateful for the kind and compassionate home health care provided by Kim Griffen, Kris Kelleher, Beverly Hill, Pat Maneeno and Jen George. We acknowledge their tremendous kindness and support. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Loaves and Fishes, Catholic Charities or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. A celebration of Doris's life is planned for later this year.
