Obituary of Nancy L. Stevens

Nancy L. (Jackson) Stevens, 79 of Cortland passed away on August 10, 2023 at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center. She was born on November 2, 1943, the daughter of the late Franklin and Victoria Gordon Jackson. Nancy graduated from Homer High School in 1961, she attended Powelson Business Institute and graduated in 1962. Nancy went on to receive her Master's degree in education at SUNY Cortland and graduated in 1972. Nancy was a secretary at SUNY Cortland Counseling Office from 1962-1968. She then went on to be a First Grade Teacher at Homer Elementary School. Nancy spend most of her teaching career as a 1st grade teacher at Homer Elementary School. Once Rich and Nancy's son, Michael, arrived, she took several years off to be home with him. While she was home with Michael, she earned her Master's Degree and Reading Certification. Nancy resumed her teaching career as a 1St grade teacher until her retirement in 2003. During retirement Nancy enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cross-stich, golf, reading, puzzles, spending time with family, eating out with Rich and friends (or by herself with her trusty Kindle reader after the passing of Rich in 2022). Nancy is survived by her loving son, Michael (Karen Poole) Stevens, two grandchildren Jackson and Georgiana Stevens, sister, Linda (Bruce) Westfall, sister in law, Patricia Jackson, two nieces and two nephews. Nancy is predeceased by her loving husband Richard Stevens after 50 years of marriage, brothers William (Billy) Jackson and Arthur Jackson. A memorial service will be held on Monday August 21, 2023 at 10:30am, at the Homer First United Methodist Church, 16 Cayuga St., Homer, NY. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Homer, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Homer First United Methodist Church, 16 Cayuga St., Homer, NY.
