Phyllis Osbeck, 85, of Cortland, passed away on October 29th after courageously battling pancreatic cancer and dementia to a draw. She was surrounded by her loved ones at the time she passed.
Phyllis was born on March 9th, 1938, to Louie and Beulah (Blanchard) Vincent, in Cortland, NY. Phyllis attended Virgil Central School and graduated in 1955, after which she studied at Beaux Arts School of Beauty working as a beautician for many years.
She met the love of her life, Richard Osbeck, while attending Virgil Central School. They married on August 23rd, 1958, and enjoyed 65 years of happiness together, raising their three children Jon Scott, Melissa Lynn and Mary Beth. Phyllis dedicated her life to being a wonderful and fantastic mother, at which she excelled. Phyllis was our family's North Star; her spirted, passionate character was filled with generosity, love, empathy and forgiveness.
Phyllis was an amazing and passionate cook and baker. Nobody left her home hungry, whether the stay was long or short. She was renowned for her pies, cakes, cobblers, shortcakes and cookies. Making and giving them to family, friends and neighbors was one of her special expressions of love.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Richard, her three children, Jon (Ron Smith), Melissa (Glen Gutierrez), and Mary; six grandchildren, Mackenzie Schissler, Adam Gutierrez, Connor Schissler, Drew Schissler, Julia Gutierrez and Daina Gutierrez, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. A special thank you to Tom and Sarah Herting and their family.
Calling hours will be at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Cortland, NY on Saturday, November 4th at 10 am. The funeral service will begin at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospicare of Cortland County and the Cortland County SPCA.
