Obituary of Isabelle J. Petrie

Isabelle Jane Petrie, 79, of Homer, NY passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 9, 2023. Isabelle was born in Homer, NY to Cornelius Robert Fitzgerald Sr. and Lucy E. (Hicks) Fitzgerald on March 23, 1944. After high school she went to work at Smith Corona in Cortland where she worked for 33 years. She then went to work for Borg Warner in Ithaca where she worked for 28 years until her retirement in 2022. Her work life was important to her and she valued the dear friends she made over the years at both places. She was an incredibly hardworking, caring person who always put the needs of others above her own. She prioritized family above all else and loved living in Homer, near so many of her immediate and extended family whom she held so dear. Isabelle is survived by her sons, Arthur (A.J.) Petrie and Scott (Shannon) Petrie, grandchildren Anthony (Kristin) Petrie, Ian (Tom Ross) Petrie, Josh (Savannah) Petrie, Isabelle Petrie, and Ethan Petrie, great grandchildren Ignacious, Aurora, Vladimir and Paisley, sister Mary Henry and nephew James R. Petrie who was like a son to her. Isabelle is also survived by many very special nieces and nephews who were such an important part of her life. She is preceded in death by her parents, former husband John R. Petrie, sisters Ellen Nowalk, Evelyn Palladino, Louise Riley, Lillian Batsford and brothers Robert Fitzgerald, Danny Fitzgerald, John Fitzgerald, Cornelious Robert Fitzgerald Jr., Arthur (Artie) Fitzgerald, and an infant brother. The family will receive guests on Friday, December 15, from 11:00 AM-12:45 PM at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, with a service to follow at 1:00 PM in the same location. After the service, family and friends are invited to the pavilion behind the Homer Fire Station for a gathering. Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice Foundation of Cortland County, 11 Kennedy Parkway, Cortland, NY.
