Obituary of Albert A. Nitti

Albert (Al) A. Nitti, 93, of Cortland, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 27th, at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center in Cortland. He was born in Utica NY to Albert L. Nitti and Beatrice (Mazza) Nitti. He attended Cortland JR/SR High School and served as a S/SGT with the 18th Fighter Bomber Wing in the United States Air Force in the Korean War conflict. He retired from SUNY Cortland where he worked as a Supervising Janitor. Prior to that, he worked at Cobakco Bread Bakery, and Monarch Machine & Tool. He was a huge NY Yankee and SF 49ers fan, and enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing. One of his greatest joys was the time he spent with his beloved wife Dorothy, traveling to Daytona Beach FL, as well as to many different casinos; and we cannot forget, sitting on their front porch together as the horns were always blowing, followed by waves to friends, neighbors and family that loved them -- then came the stories. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, getting updated on what was going on, attending sporting events when he could, and watching game shows together. No matter what he was doing when with his family, he beamed with pride and the conversations were full of sound advice, quick witt, and love. He is survived by his son Thomas (Mary Kay) Nitti, son Steven, daughter Michelle (Randy) Congdon and son Mark (Juanita Bush) Nitti; grandchildren Katelyn (Mac) Desmond, Anthony Nitti, Caden Congdon and Cameron Nitti; sister Elizabeth Demers; brother Gregory (Liz) Nitti, several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Albert and Beatrice (Mazza) Nitti; his wife Dorothy Nitti; and sisters Rosemary Curtis and Florence Parsons. Services will be at Wright Beard Funeral Home, and will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
