Obituary of Anita Wright

Anita Heiligenstadt Wright, aged 87, passed away on October 4th, 2024 at Guthrie Cortland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Misty Glen in Cortland, NY after a short illness. She was the daughter of August and Lena Heiligenstadt and was born in 1937 in Lynbrook, NY and grew up in Huntington,NY. She showed musical talent from an early age, singing for many events growing up. She went to Ithaca College to study music performance. Anita had a keen interest in history and worked many years for the Cortland County Historical Society. Her knowledge of local history was amazing and she was called upon often to do presentations on topics of local history for community groups. She was active many years in The League of Women Voters, RSVP and volunteered for several years at The CNY Living History Museum, as well as being an avid and skilled bowler.
Anita is predeceased by her parents and her brother Richard and sister-in-law Nadine and her ex-husband, Robert Wright. Surviving are her children Cindy Stogsdill (Tim) of Camillus, Darren (Mary) of Cortland, Elissa Wright of Cortland, and Glenn (Lisa) of Chesapeake, VA. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Brett Wright(Kathryn),Steve Wright, Sara Wright, Chris Stogsdill, Nick Stogsdill(Laurel), Katie Stogsdill, Taylor Wright, Ben Wright, Garrett Wright and Joshua Wright and two great-grandchildren, Pippa and Trace Wright. She also leaves behind many dear extended family and friends who will miss her quick wit and vast knowledge of family history.
Anita's family would like to thank the staff at Misty Glen at Cortland Regional Medical Center for their compassionate care of Anita during her final months.
