Robert F. Martin of Cortland, NY passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on 11/12/2024 with his family by his side. He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Bob attended Cortland High School and joined the US Marine Corps in 1960 – serving 4 years. After the Marines he worked at Monarch Machine and Tool in Cortlandville and after several years he took a position at Salmon Motor Repair in Syracuse as an electrician, building electrical control panels, where he commuted daily from Cortland to North Syracuse for more than 20 years. He enjoyed wood working and restoring furniture, boats and cars as well as home renovations. Later in life he found a fondness for assembling LEGO kit cars. Bob was also an avid bowler and enjoyed darts and billiards. Bob was always there to help his friends, family and neighbors. He was an active member and trustee of Church of Blodgett Mills.
Bob was pre-deceased by his first wife Carol (Heim) and his parents Almond and Eleanor Martin. He is survived by his wife Lois McCool-Martin whom he married February 4, 2006. Father to Thomas (Laurie Massaro), Patricia Martin, Robin (Dylan) James and Michael (Sarah) Martin. Brother to Richard, Barbara (Edward) Page, Janet (Scott) Turner and several nieces and nephews. Grandfather to Garrett, LeighAnn (Zachariah) Anderson, Savanna and Isabelle James and Alexandra Martin. Great-grandfather to Finnegan and Declan Anderson.
Step Father to; Theresa (Jim) Ferris, John (Melinda) McCool, Scott and Patrick McCool. Step Grandfather to; Robert, Jamie, Christian, Jessica, Nicholas, Loey, Jimmy, John Jr, Kate (Rajeesh) Manglani, Natalie (Tyler) Hinson, Lucas McCool and John Jr. McCool. Step Great-grandfather to; Forest, Charlie, Maggie, Emily, Brantley, Ava, Aden, Dominick, Declan, Karlee, Brennan, Alexa, Juniper, Shannon and Molly.
Friends and family are invited to a calling hour, Saturday, November 23, 2024 from 3-4 PM at Blodgett Mills Church, 3333 Clute Rd, Cortland, NY 13045 with a Memorial Service to follow at 4 PM. Immediately following the Memorial Service, there will be a celebration of life with food. Private burial will be in Cortland Rural Cemetery.
